Establishment and
Programmes
In 1962, based on the recommendations of the DS Kothari commission, School of Open Learning was established as a pilot project. It was then known as the Directorate of Correspondence Courses, whose nomenclature in 1968, was changed to School of Correspondence Courses and Continuing Education (SOCCCE). It was rechristened as COL/SOL in the year 2004. Thus began the journey of distance education/ open learning, an alternate mode of education, pioneered in India by COL/SOL, University of Delhi.
From humble beginnings comprising 900 students and 5 courses, we have grown in magnitude, now offering 28 under-graduate and post-graduate courses, catering to around 5 lakh students through our four study centres. We also offer various skill-based certificate courses, for skill enhancement of interested students/ individuals.
